In German, “Seitensprung” describes a sudden jump from one side to the other – a departure from a set line or position. The same word is also used for having an illicit affair. The title was interesting to me in the sense that it refers to a physical shift of location as well as an inner change.
In its progression, the growing distance created by the “Seitensprung" shows a change in course and leads the viewer around the corner and out of the picture field.
The process of wrapping represents the physical tension in the work, while the visual tension is provided by the composition. - Senem
These works are created by wrapping natural rope around a wooden panel to create a base surface similar to a raw canvas. The shapes are created by wrapping each strand of rope with cotton thread.
